Before a storm of comments arrive about the legalities or otherwise of seeking out, photographing or handling bats - we will point out that unless you are a certified bat carer or bat worker - all of the above is illegal and you would be prosecuted if observed or caught disturbing any British Bats - they have even more protection under law than badgers!
There is of course nothing wrong in seeking to find new bat colonies and watching - from outside of the roost at a reasonable distance - and records of any colony you may discover should be reported to the local bat group in your area - so they can monitor, protect and advise.
