Ian says ….. With all our friends gone taking their superb Red Squirrel shots with them it was time for us to try our luck out in the hide in the garden. We struggled to get two good backdrops for the baited area so I headed back indoors to let Pauline have first go. When it was my turn things didn’t go according to plan, my squirrel shots were terrible and a Sparrowhawk sitting on the picnic table didn’t help with the bird photography – all in all another bad camera day for me.
Pauline say's ... With Ian off his game and 'dummy over the fence' I took the long awaited opportunity to get in the hide and try my luck .... the squirrel came and I got one decent shot in the end - I had to do a bit of work to darken the background as there was nothing we could do with it for real outside - the sun was lighting the forest but shaded in the garden where the log and food was ... As I came in Ian went back out eventually moving the hide .... I was looking thro the kitchen window when that cracking little male sparrowhawk flew a tight circle round my car and landed on the picnic table .... curses - why didn;t it do that when I was out there?! I glanced back and Ian was trying to slowly swing the 600 in its direction - no chance - off it went - shutter not fired .... was I sorry about that - well a little bit (ok I'm lying!!!!)
