Tue 26th March ... 'Hysterics'

Ian says: .... Today we split in to 3 groups,  John and Shirley went to check on a possible anti-Pine Martin fence, David, Dave and Neil had a ride round to Glen Shee to try for Mountain Hare and Ptarmigan, while myself and Pauline went up to the car park on Cairngorm for Snow Bunting as we didn’t want the long drive round to Glen Shee.  As soon as we put food on the wall the Buntings came straight down but due to traffic and people continually passing close by the birds were very flighty. We decided on a trip up the funicular railway and a scan from the restaurant for Ptarmigan. No success with Ptarmigan but on returning down to the car park, which was emptying quickly, the Snow Buntings were a bit more willing to stay and eat on the wall. The driving snow and loss of light soon put an end to it all and the restaurant beckoned....

Pauline says: ... The atrociously cold snowy weather continues and finally running out of patience between the cold and pain in my finger ends, the amount of people mauling around all over the place, cars and buses passing all the time and finally the mother of all snowstorms came bowling a black sky over the top of the 'gorm, which turned into a full white-out, covering us like a wet blanket in seconds ... finally I lost it and had the biggest 'paddy' for years - I wanted to go - I wanted to leave Scotland and go home - enough is enough - tired, cold, lacking in sleep, in pain as the buntings kept being disturbed away from the front of my lens - enough - Too Much - I want to leave NOW! This 'little' hysterical outburst lost Ian his Snow Bunting in full snow shots ... and for which I haven;t been forgiven ... yet .....
